Joining us this summer as our new Senior Minister, Dave is thrilled to join First Church leaders building a beloved community at 10th and G, and nurturing the church’s passion for justice and peace. A native New Englander, Dave was educated at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Over three decades in parish ministry, he’s served dynamic UCC congregations in Seattle, Denver, Cambridge (Massachusetts) and Santa Cruz (California). At the heart of his ministry is a vision of congregational life that weaves deep Christian practice into a courageous commitment to peacemaking, restorative justice and interreligious collaboration.
Dave’s traveled extensively in the Middle East and has lead interfaith peacemaking delegations to Palestine and Israel. He’s a long-time volunteer in ministries that bring hope and mentoring to men in county jails and state prisons; and he’s offered pastoral and congregational support to women and men building new lives after incarceration.
Dave’s an erstwhile poet and pianist and a huge jazz and hip-hop fan. He brings to Christian worship a lively spirit of curiosity and experimentation and likes to match lively, interactive liturgy with jazz, gospel, dance and the arts. Along the way, progressive congregations are discovering a synergy in sacred space—where imagination takes flight and justice is always in motion. Joy, he says, is the lifeblood of prophetic service and 21st century resistance!
Dave hopes you’ll stop by on Sunday morning, or call and schedule a visit. He loves to walk the city, and always enjoys finding a new and cool café for coffee! His first Sunday with us in worship will be August 19.
