First Congregational United Church of Christ believes that education is a life long spiritual practice.

We are Living Our Faith Together  (L.O.F.T.)
Parents are requested to fill in a L.O.F.T. Family Information Form.

Affirming Our Faith involves youth aged 12+ in instruction and activities that support the community and the individual faith life of each participant. In recent weeks youth have been participating in a 6 to 8 week exploration of World Religions. Led by adults in the First Church community, youth are engaging Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam — learning to access reliable and accurate information and get beyond distortions and stereotypes.

Outreach and learning through engagement is a major community faith practice in the United Church of Christ. We act on our faith while we intellectually explore. This year youth are planning to work in community with L’Arche of Washington, D. C.  Dates for involvement will soon be available.

Potomac Association Youth meet Feb 26  Youth Night At Westmoreland

Service opportunity scheduled for July  Youth Habitat Trip

Worship Leadership allows young people to develop faith practices that can last for a life time of service and commitment. Young people are invited to participate in worship with the entire community of faith. Opportunities to volunteer to lead worship are available every Sunday. Many youth enjoy helping out in the sound room, singing in various settings, doing dramatic presentations of scripture, leading liturgical readings, and passing the elements during the sacrament of Communion.

Youth Ministry Goals of First Church realize that young people are busy and have any number of choices available to them in our times. We seek to meet young people where they are in their faith journey, helping them discern their personal and cultural identity, as well as cultivate spiritual gifts. Youth Nurture Events are scheduled on a quarterly basis, providing opportunities for youth to bring friends to their community of faith. Movie nights, city trips, and informal gatherings allow young people to have much needed downtime.

Christian Education Newsletter is sent electronically each week to all interested church family participants.  It includes an update on programming for children, youth, adults and educational events for the entire inter-generational family. If you are interested in receiving the CE E Letter or in learning more about L.O.F.T. opportunities for you and your family call Rev.
