Worship with us this World Communion Sunday

Join us at 10:30 in the sanctuary or click here to join us by Zoom as we celebrate World Communion and continue our fall theme “Into the Deep.” Brendan McFerran will lead us in a prayer of confession and offer words of assurance. The First Church Choir will sing the anthem, “Oye Mi Clamor,” under the direction of Ulung Tanoto, who will provide a rich tapestry of global music, including a reverie harp to offer a Korean folk prelude, collaboration with Dwight Isaiah Davis on drums, and a bamboo flute for a traditional Indonesian postlude. In lieu of a sermon, we will offer an extended communion liturgy as we bring bread representing people around the world to the worship table. The Prentice family will lift up the people of Columbia, Dian Permana will lift up the people of Indonesia, Sandy Sorensen will lift up the people of Palestine, Marian Drake will remember refugees from around the globe, and Nick McConnell will lift up the people of Ukraine. As each offering of bread is placed on the worship table, the congregation will join in the refrain “One Bread, One Body.” We will participate in a responsive reading from Psalm 137:1-6 (by the waters of Babylon). Nan McConnell will serve as our scripture reader with a focus text from 2 Timothy 1:1-14 (encouragement to be faithful) For those joining us from home, please take the time to prepare your table with the sacred elements of bread and cup, which we will bless and break together. We will also enjoy singing in English, Spanish, and Swahili.
