Worship with us this First Sunday in Lent

Join us at 10:30 in the sanctuary or click here to join us by Zoom this first Sunday in Lent, as we begin our forty-day journey toward the cross. Lent is the season when we prepare our hearts to receive the mystery of resurrection at Easter. Thaddaeus Elliott will serve as our Lenten candle liturgist, reflecting on this year’s theme, “Tell Me Something Good: Grounding ourselves in Good News this Lent.” Rev. Sam will offer a time with our children. The First Church Choir will sing the anthem, “Hear My Prayer” by Moses Hogan under the direction of Dennis Turner. Rev. Jason Carson Wilson and Tom McCaffrey will serve as our scripture readers with focus texts from John 2:1-11 (water into wine) and Matthew 13:31-32 (parable of the mustard seed). Rev. Amanda will preach. We will also share in the prayers of the people and end the service by forming a circle to sing “God Be With You,” written by former First Church pastor and Howard University president Jeremiah Rankin.
