Drop-In Center Volunteer Online Training
First Church and our partners at Sasha Bruce Youthwork will host two online training sessions this month for individuals interested in volunteering on Monday nights at the Drop-In Center for Homeless Youth. Please join one of the following:
Saturday, September 15 from 10 until 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday, September 26 from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
This training is required for new volunteers. It includes information about the population that is served, the theory of low-barrier services, and guidance regarding volunteer roles and responsibilities.
The Drop-In Center is open from 6 until 9 p.m. on Monday nights at First Church. With typical attendance of 40-70 guests, the Center provides food, board games, movies, HIV testing, special programs (such as art therapy and nutrition education), and case management services to help people access education, employment, healthcare, housing and other services. First Church volunteers assist with specific responsibilities but are primarily tasked with engaging guests, ensuring they feel welcome, and demonstrating the love of God to them.
For questions or to participate in the training, please contact Rev. James D. Ross II, Minister of Justice Formation, at JamesDRossii@gmail.com with information regarding the session you will attend. Login information will be provided in advance of the session.
