Join us at 10:30 in the sanctuary or click here to join us by Zoom as we mark Indigenous Peoples Sunday and continue our fall theme, “Renewing the Journey.” Assistant Moderator Lindsay Swisher will call us to worship by leading us in a land acknowledgement. Rev. Sam will lead us in a prayer of confession and words of assurance. David Greer and Kim Darling will serve as our scripture readers with focus texts from Exodus 20:1-20 (Ten Commandments) and Philippians 3:4-14 (counting gains as loss because of Christ). Rev. Amanda will preach the sermon. The First Church choir will sing the anthem, “Total Praise.” Our second Sunday special offering recipient will be the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition and we will learn more about their important work. We will also share in the prayers of the people. Join us!
Due to the Indigenous Peoples holiday weekend, there will be no Sunday school for our children or coffee hour this week. However, we will provide children’s bulletins and invite our children to join us in worship.
Following worship, please join us in the Community Hall or on Zoom for a hybrid community listening session with local artist Jessica Valoris, whom we have commissioned to create a memorial art piece honoring the names of the enslaved laborers who worked the land on which our church now sits. All are welcome to take part in this important conversation. To prepare, we encourage you to read Antonio Austin’s “Slavery on G Street” report detailing the historical research he conducted earlier this year to excavate this hidden history.
