Join us at 10:30 in the sanctuary or click here to join us by Zoom for worship on this Faith & Democracy Sunday. Sandy Sorensen will call us to worship with a reflection on our fall theme, “Choose This Day.” Three of our youth will reflect on democracy with the support of Rev. Sam. The First Church Choir will sing the anthem, “Many Gifts, One Spirit” under the direction of Dennis Turner. Rev. Sydney Avent and Peter Byrne will serve as our scripture readers with focus texts from Amos 5:11-24 (let justice roll) and 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 (God chose the weak to shame the strong). We regret to share the news that Rev. Freeman Palmer is no longer able to serve as our guest preacher; instead, Rev. Amanda will facilitate a dialogue about faith and democracy with Sandy Sorensen, former director of the UCC’s DC office of justice and witness, and Abigail Cipparone, domestic policy analyst for the UCC. Then, Chandra DeNap Whetstine and Rev. Amanda will introduce the 40 Days of Prayer initiative, blessing the VOTE-ive candles we invite you to use (one per household) along with a booklet of prayer prompts. They will also offer prayer for any individual wishing to receive it, and we will close our prayer time by speaking together Parker Palmer’s adaptation of the Lord’s Prayer. Join us!
